Maria Aiolova, LEED AP, Assoc. AIA


Maria Aiolova is an educator, architect, urban designer and community builder in New York 
City. She is a leader in interdisciplinary education focused on future cities.  Maria is the Co-
Founder of Terreform ONE where she created ONE Lab, an experimental school that 
combines design and science in a singular curriculum. She served as the Academic Director of Global Programs at CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange), where she 
created programs in Berlin, Barcelona, Prague, Shanghai, Cape Town and New York. She is 
an institutional adviser to New Lab at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Maria is currently a visiting faculty at IAAC (Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia), Barcelona. Most recently, she taught at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Pratt Institute and Parsons the New School for Design. Maria has been a visiting lecturer and critic at Harvard GSD, Columbia University, Cornell University, CUNY, Washington University, The Cooper Union, University of Toronto and Rhode Island School of Design. Formerly, she served as Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of ETEX Corporation, a bio-tech company in Cambridge, MA. Maria is an inventor, who holds 18 technology patents. Maria has won a number of honors including; AIA New York Urban Design Merit Award, 1st Place International Architecture Award, Victor Papanek Social Design Award, Zumtobel Group Award for Sustainability and Humanity and the Build Boston Award. Her work has been the official selection at the Venice Biannale and has been exhibited at MoMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New Institute (NAI) in Rotterdam. any edited volumes, journals, book chapters and periodicals. This list includes but is not limited to; MIT Press, Springer, Rizzoli, MoMA Press, Routledge, NY Times, Dwell, Wired, Good, Popular Science, and Architectural Design. Maria received her M.Arch. in Urban Design from Harvard University,  B.Arch. from Wentworth IT with Honors, Dipl.-Ing. from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria and Sofia, Bulgaria.
